It is difficult to estimate and steer outcomes on complex projects without sufficient historical data and analysis tools to provide detailed comparisons within and across projects. The windows for early detection and course correction close rapidly in throughout the design phases. This results in difficult design concessions or cost overruns.
Building CATALYST is able to track all critical data entities throughout the program, design, budget estimating and procurement phases. This provides early detection and early course correction as progress may stray from the approved target. This video illustrates CATALYST’s integrated target value setting and tracking system.
As shown in Figure 1 the estimating progression from early planning throughout the project is tracked, enabling the team to remove variation (uncertainty) while steering toward the approved target. And then, once the approved target is achieved, to prevent straying off course in the latter project stages. This illustrates the gross building area and total project cost summary.

CATALYST provides a variety of reports comparing progress to an approved target value or budget, in summary or in detail. Figure 2, for example, shows the summary of total project cost, department by department. This Two Set Comparison Report comparing the Phase 1 Bid Results to the Approved Target sets.
